Five reasons 100 new TV shows are launching in early 2014

Do not be alarmed and do not adjust your set, either, but... you are about to be drowned by your television.
Over the next eight to 12 weeks, beginning Jan. 1, approximately 100 new shows, specials, reality series and megaevents (from the Super Bowl to the new "Tonight Show") will launch. It's TV's own perfect storm -- of opportunity, changing industry practices and simply more viewing.
We'll get to the laundry list of shows as they're rolled out, but today, a little bit of understanding and perspective: Why is there about to be so darn much new TV?
