High five in history: who invented the high five?
There's no way to know for sure, but many online sources say the high five was invented by Glenn Burke of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1977 on the last day of the regular season. Celebrating his first major league home run, Burke raised his hand -- and teammate Dusty Baker slapped it.
From there, the story goes, the high five ricocheted around the world.
