Katie Couric celebrated the holiday weekend on Long Island with fireworks -- in the form of a new diamond sparkler on her ring finger.

Her representative, Matthew Hiltzik, confirmed to Newsday Tuesday that Couric, 56, accepted a proposal from New York financier John Molner, 50, her boyfriend of nearly two years.

People.com reports that Molner, a partner at Brown Brothers Harriman, where he heads mergers and acquisitions, proposed at sunset on the beach in East Hampton, where Couric has a home.

"Yes it's true!" Couric, 56, tweeted of the engagement. "So touched by all the kind tweets and warm wishes -- thank you! A great end to the summer and looking forward to seeing you all Monday!"

Couric lost her first husband, Manhasset-born NBC News legal analyst Jay Monahan, to colon cancer in 1998, and has dated since but never remarried. They had two daughters, Elle, now 21, and Carrie, 17.

"I always imagined I would be a modern-day Carol Brady," Couric told People in 2011.
Her talk show, "Katie," returns for a second season Monday on WABC/7.
