From NBC, to CBS, to ABC, Katie Couric now has her hat trick.

The former "Today" co-host and "Evening News" anchor will join ABC News as a contributor this summer, in advance of launching a new syndicated show in late 2012.

Couric's new show will air, as expected, at 3 p.m. on WABC/7, displacing "General Hospital."

No word on where the popular soap will end up, but in a statement ABC said it "continues to support" the program.

"I'm very happy to be returning to the network where I began my career as a desk assistant in 1979," Couric said in a statement.

She'll be reunited with her onetime "Today" producer, Jeff Zucker, the former chief executive of NBCUniversal. He'll be her show-runner.

Couric's new arrangement as an ABC News contributor at least ensures some visibility as her syndicated show -- still nameless -- undergoes a long gestation.
