Lady Gaga continues to show that she was born to rule with 32 million Facebook fans, 10 million Twitter followers (the first celebrity to reach this number). And now she's taken the top spot on Forbes Celebrity 100 list, knocking media mogul Oprah Winfrey to No. 2.
This is the third time Winfrey has been knocked from the top spot in seven years, according to Forbes.com. Lady Gaga made a whopping $90 million last year -- slim in comparison to Winfrey’s $290 million -- but Gaga’s overwhelmingly strong social media power is what boosted her to the top spot.
Her “little monsters” contributed to her new title by helping to move 1 million copies of the digital download of “Born This Way” in just five days. They also heavily support and buy just about anything Gaga endorses including MAC makeup, Monster headphones and Virgin Mobile phones.
Justin Bieber rounds out the top three with earnings of $53 million last year. His strong social media presence also helped catapult the teen sensation to this high rank on the list.
According to Forbes, its celebrity power ranking is a measurement of entertainment-related earnings and media visibility (exposure in print, television, radio and online) over the past 12 months, as well as social media power.
Lady Gaga has proved that she's a force to be reckoned with, and the loyalty of her “little monsters” should keep her at the top of the music game.
Is there anyone else in the industry now who comes close to Gaga’s power?
