Long Beach's Tim McCormack, described by ABC TV as a liquor distributor originally from Massapequa, found himself eliminated on the season premiere of "The Bachelorette" Monday night even before the rose ceremony at show's end.

Ironically, it was because he was drunk.

McCormack, 35, could not be reached for comment.

His sad state became evident when bachelorette Ashley Hebert, a 26-year-old University of Pennsylvania dental student, sat down beside him on a sofa and asked, "How's it going?"

Smiling and bobbing, he mumbled, "Y'scary." When she asked if he was all right, he answered, "I'm all right. You just scared me." She apologized and then he answered nonsensically, "I did."

After a few more pleasantries, McCormack slurred, "Oh, my God, I really am, sort of . . . " and it dawned on her: "You're what? You're drunk!" she said, laughing.

"Yeah, probably. I'm sorry."

Gamely, Hebert asked him what he did for work. "I sell wine and spirits," he answered, slurring the last word.

"Wine and spurs?" she asked.

Later, after McCormick admitted that "I had a few cocktails," Hebert told the camera, "Tim was definitely drunk. And I feel bad for the guy. I can identify with wasted opportunities, and I think he's going to wake up tomorrow with a lot of regrets. And me, for one, I know I want to leave here without regrets."

After Hebert finally found him asleep, she had the other bachelors help him into a chauffeured sport utility vehicle to take him to wherever he was staying in Los Angeles, where the show is filmed.
