Long Island Sound: Echo's stripped-down performance

Testing for Echo is set for a festival-filled week.

The Long Island rockers, who released their new "Resolution" album last month, play the Great South Bay Music Festival at Shorefront Park in Patchogue today and wrap it up at the Vans Warped Tour in the Nassau Coliseum parking lot Saturday.

It's a sure sign of how the songs from "Resolution," especially the Incubus-tinged single "Over (Dramatic)," can work for a wide range of rock fans. But the band - singer-guitarist Rich Albergo, keyboardist-singer Eric Mazurkewitz, drummer-singer Pete Koronios and bassist Mike Gaudiello - is also determined to work for causes it believes in as well, playing a recent benefit for victims of the Haiti earthquake and the upcoming Benefit for the Gulf Oil Crisis at the Babylon Hibernian Hall Aug. 27.

But it's their plan to raise money for the great To Write Love on Her Arms charity, which battles depression and suicide, that may get them the most attention. "If enough fans and Warped Tour attendees come to see us play, we will perform our last song - which is five-and-a-half minutes long - in nothing but our boxer shorts," Koronios told Alternative Press for a story in next month's issue. "Afterward, we will be autographing the boxer shorts and auctioning them off to the highest bidder with the proceeds being donated To Write Love on Her Arms."

Given the recent heat wave, the band may up the ante, tweeting, "If it is this hot out on the 17th, we just might have to play our entire Warped Tour set in our boxers."

Testing for Echo plays the Cultural Tent at 2:45 p.m. at Sunday's Great South Bay Music Festival and the Kevin Says Stage at Warped Tour Saturday.
