The actress Dakota Fanning and filmmaker Jeff Nichols will attend this year’s Hamptons International Film Festival in October.

Nichols’ film “Loving,” starring Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga, will be the festival’s opening night film. “Loving” is based on the true story of an interracial couple whose battle to marry legally became a landmark Supreme Court decision.

Fanning, appears in the new film “American Pastoral,” which will be the festival’s closing night film. Based on the Philip Roth novel about an all-American Jewish man whose daughter is swept up in the violent political protests of the 1960s, “American Pastoral” is directed by Ewan McGregor and also stars Jennifer Connelly, David Strathairn and Rupert Evans.

“Every year the festival aims to bring topical, timely and entertaining programming to our audiences, and both of our opening and closing night films fit this bill,” the festival’s executive director, Anne Chaisson, said in a statement.

The Hamptons International Film Festival runs Oct. 6 through 10.
