Minka Kelly calls herself a jeans and T-shirt type of girl, but the actress didn't hesitate to go glam for a good cause at The Heart Truth Red Dress Show in Manhattan on Wednesday night.

Celebrities gather in red for the event each February to kick off New York Fashion Week with a healthy message.

“When I learned that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, that really affected me,” Kelly told Newsday. “Since I lost my mom a few years ago, I've really tried to lead a healthy lifestyle. I want to be around to see my grandchildren.”

Kelly, who is an ambassador for Diet Coke, a major supporter of The Heart Truth's mission to fight heart disease in women, exuded confidence as she walked the runway for the second time in a flowing asymmetrical Oscar de la Renta chiffon gown.

“Last year I was so nervous my feet were sweating and I slipped out of my shoes,” Kelly said. “This time I made sure they were strapped in.”

It was TV personality Wendy Williams' first time walking in a fashion show, and she chose a one-size-fits-all Kamali Kulture by Norma Kamali dress that can be worn eight different ways.

“I've been wearing Norma Kamali since my senior year in high school,” Williams said. “She's more affordable and attainable for the everyday woman .?.?. like me .?.?. I'm just a girl from Jersey.”

Williams also spoke about ways to avoid heart disease.

“The fact of the matter is I'm a woman of a particular age, I'm 48 and I'm in the best shape of my life,” she said. “I do go to the gym, I do eat right and I have relationships with my team of doctors. I think it's very important for women to at least attempt to forge those relationships with their medical providers.”

Though she's only 17, gold medal gymnast Gabby Douglas also came out to support the cause in a fishtail dress by Pamella Roland.

“I love fashion and I try to style different things together .?.?. oh, I just love it,” Douglas told Newsday, adding that she would not try any gymnastics moves on the runway.

“I have to keep it classy in my dress and heels,” she said.

Kris, Kendall and Kylie Jenner all walked in the show wearing Badgley Mischka, Kris in a form-fitting gown, Kendall with embellished cap sleeves and Kylie with a plunging back. Fitness guru Jillian Michaels showed off her toned arms in a gown by Cushnie et Ochs, and singer Toni Braxton wore Herve L. Leroux.

The social media world is encouraged to participate in The Heart Truth's movement by using the hashtag #ShowYourHeart throughout February and uploading heart-inspired photos to Twitter and Instagram. For each person who does so, Diet Coke will donate $1 to the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health to support heart health research.

Wearing red to promote awareness is another way to help the cause — and amp up your winter wardrobe.

“It's a really confident, powerful, strong, beautiful color,” Kelly said.

After seeing it take over the runway, we have to agree.
