Mosaic Street Painting Festival, more on Long Island

Painting in the street is encouraged — at least, for the day — in Riverhead. The East End Arts Council’s annual community festival has made a Memorial Day weekend tradition of helping people unleash their own creativity. It’s a colorful affair, with kids doodling on the pavement alongside established artists working on their next great — if not fleeting — masterpiece.
You can reserve a sponsored square in advance or get your own the day of the festival for $20, which includes plenty of chalk for sketching. The day includes arts and crafts vendors, live music and dance performances, plus food trucks for sustenance.
