Disney-Marvel releases first trailer for 'Avengers: Endgame'
The new Avengers movie officially has a title: “Avengers: Endgame.”
Disney-Marvel released the first trailer for the film — No. 4 in the franchise — early Friday morning. While it doesn’t answer the question of how (or whether) many of our favorite superheroes will return from what appeared to be oblivion in the previous film, it offers glimmers of hope and just a hint of humor.
The trailer puts its biggest star, Robert Downey, Jr., on screen first, beginning with a scene of Iron Man hurtling through space while making one of those if-you-get-this-I’m-dead videos for the love of his life, Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). Soon after, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow explains clearly what we presumed at the end of Movie No. 3 — that the villain Thanos (a CGI Josh Brolin) has “wiped out 50 percent of all living creatures.” To remind us who survived, Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), a character absent from the previous episode, make appearances.
When Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man shows up at the Avengers compound, the trailer finally strikes a lighthearted tone. Mostly, though, “Avengers: Endgame” looks like fairly serious business. Whatever plan Chris Evans’ Captain America has come up with, he insists it will work. “‘Cause I don’t know what I’m going to do,” he says, “if it doesn’t.”
"Avengers: Endgame" hits theaters on April 26.
