WHO Bryan Cranston
THE DEAL The actor, who won four Emmy Awards for his portrayal of Walter White in AMC’s “Breaking Bad” series, has raised a question about the potential movie version. When Cranston appeared on Tuesday's “Today” show to discuss his Broadway production of “Network,” talk turned to his famous television role. “Isn’t Walter White dead?” asked host Savannah Guthrie. “Yes!” Cranston replied. “What, are they gonna show me on a slab or something?” Still, he said to the camera, in case any producers were watching, “I’d love to do a ‘Breaking Bad’ movie.”
WHO Ennio Morricone
THE DEAL The Italian film-score composer may not have insulted Quentin Tarantino after all, according to Deadline.com. Over the past few days, news broke that Morricone — whose credits include the iconic Western “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” — had given a puzzling interview to Playboy Germany. He called Tarantino a “cretin” and his films “trash,” despite having won his first competitive Oscar for scoring the director's “The Hateful Eight.” When Morricone denied saying such things, the magazine initially stood by its story. More recently, however, Playboy Germany issued a statement raising questions about the reporter and claiming that the quotes “were, in part, reproduced incorrectly.”
THE MOVIE “Looking for Oum Kulthum”
THE DEAL Shirin Neshat’s film-within-a-film follows a director as she tries to make a documentary on Oum Kulthum, a popular female singer in a male-centric Arab world. Neshat and her collaborator, Shoja Azari, both Iranian-born, will attend a local screening of their film at the Parrish Art Museum and speak with Corinne Erni, senior curator for ArtsReach and Special Projects.
