Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin confirmed Thursday a previous report that Christian Bale would play the title role in the upcoming film biography of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.

"It's like the NFL draft," Sorkin, 53, told Bloomberg TV. "There are some people who . . . [say] 'We need to draft a middle inside linebacker who can do . . . .' And some other teams say, 'Who's the best athlete on the board?' We needed the best actor on the board in a certain age range and that's Chris Bale."

Bale, 40, who won a Supporting Actor Oscar for "The Fighter" and earned an Actor nomination for "American Hustle," "didn't have to audition," Sorkin said, allowing that, "Well, there was a meeting."

Oscar-winner Sorkin adapted Walter Isaacson's 2011 book "Steve Jobs" for the Danny Boyle-directed film. Ashton Kutcher already portrayed the tech visionary in the 2013 biopic "Jobs."
