THE MOVIE “David Crosby: Remember My Name”

THE DEAL Sony Pictures Classics has acquired North American rights to A.J. Eaton’s documentary on the iconic singer-songwriter. The film, produced by Cameron Crowe, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in the U.S. Documentary Competition. “Remember My Name” follows the musician from his heyday with Crosby, Stills & Nash to his latter-day musical projects. According to reports, the film reveals that Crosby, 77, is no longer on speaking terms with his former bandmates. In a statement released after the movie’s purchase, Crowe said, “We are looking forward to sharing David’s inspiring story with his loyal fans and legions of new ones.”

THE MOVIE “Them That Follow”

THE DEAL An Appalachian thriller featuring the Oscar-nominated star of “The Favourite” has been picked up by The Orchard Film Group out of Sundance, according to Deadline. The movie focuses on a community of snake handlers, a rarefied subsect of American Pentecostalism, whose church holds a disturbing secret. The cast also includes Walton Goggins and Alice Englert. The film marks the feature directing debuts of Britt Poulton and Dan Madison Savage.

THE MOVIES Oscar-nominated shorts

THE DEAL The Gold Coast International Film Festival will present screenings of the Oscar-nominated animated and live-action shorts next month in two separate programs. Each will be followed by a Q&A with Oscar-winning producer Mara Kassin.

The animated shorts will screen Feb. 10, at 6 p.m. at Soundview Cinemas, 7 Soundview Marketplace, Port Washington. The live-action shorts will screen Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bow Tie Squire Cinemas, 115 Middle Neck Rd., Great Neck.
