THE MOVIE “Flatliners”

THE DEAL The Mexican actor is in negotiations to join the cast of “Flatliners,” according to TheWrap.com. Niels Arden Oplev, whose credits include USA’s “Mr. Robot,” will direct a remake of the 1990 film that starred Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland as medical students who find a way to visit the afterlife. Production is slated to begin in July. Luna recently wrapped production on the “Star Wars” spinoff “Rogue One.”

THE DEAL If you missed this year’s best picture Oscar winner, you may still have a chance to see it on the big screen. On the heels of its big win, “Spotlight” will be expanding to approximately 1,000 theaters nationwide, according to TheWrap. Though the journalism drama is already available on DVD and iTunes, and has earned about $39 million domestically, the new rollout aims to take advantage of its new Oscar fame. “Spotlight” stars Michael Keaton and Oscar nominees Mark Ruffalo and Rachel McAdams as Boston Globe journalists investigating child abuse within the Catholic Church. It’s set to play at more than a dozen local theaters.

THE MOVIE “Friends & Romans”

THE DEAL The mobsters-meet-Shakespeare comedy by two Long Island natives is coming to video-on-demand, according to Freestyle Digital Media. The film stars Michael Rispoli as an Italian-American actor who mounts a production of “Macbeth” with his friends to prove that they can play more than just gangland thugs. The film was written by Gregg Greenberg with director Christopher Kublan, both Jericho High School graduates, along with Rispoli. It premieres on VOD on Tuesday.
