 THE DEAL It took only six seconds for director Jon Favreau ("Iron Man") to announce that Hoffman would be joining his upcoming film, "Chef." That's because the two stars revealed the news earlier this week through the video service Vine, which allows only six-second clips. The video appeared under the heading "New cast members. #Chef." Also appearing in the short clip is Bobby Cannavale, wearing kitchen whites. The film, about an unemployed chef (Favreau) who opens a food truck, also stars Robert Downey Jr., Sofia Vergara and John Leguizamo.

 THE DEAL The 12-year-old actress, best known as the half-vampire child Renesmee in the final "Twilight" films, is set to join Christopher Nolan's next opus, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Plot details have not been officially revealed, but the film is said to be inspired by theories of time-travel and wormholes put forth by the theoretical physicist Kip Thorne. Also reportedly joining the cast is Oscar-winner Ellen Burstyn, who recently worked with Foy on an indie drama titled "Wish You Well," based on a David Baldacci novel. 
 THE EVENT "How Mavericks and Rule-Breakers Changed the Movies" 
 THE DEAL Huntington-based filmmaker Glenn Andreiev this weekend will hold a three-hour interactive class, tracing the history of cinema's pioneering directors, from old masters like Sergei Eisenstein to such new arrivals as Tom Tykwer ("Run Lola Run") and Peter Jackson. Andreiev's presentation aims to avoid familiar favorites in favor of rare and little-seen clips from 120 years' worth of film.
