Veteran television and film star Ed Asner is coming to Long Island.

Asner, best known for his role as gruff but warmhearted newsman Lou Grant on CBS’ “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and later in the newspaper drama “Lou Grant,” will receive a lifetime achievement award at the Long Island International Film Expo, which runs July 13-21 at the Bellmore Movies.

Asner, 86, will be recognized “for his extraordinary contributions to cinema,” which include playing Santa Claus in the 2003 Will Ferrell comedy “Elf” and providing the voice of Carl Fredricksen in Pixar’s “Up” (2009).
