Van Sant bids to direct 'Fifty Shades'

Gus Van Sant, in an attempt to be chosen to direct the movie adaptation of the sexually explicit bestseller "Fifty Shades of Grey," has shot a graphic sex scene featuring actor-model Alex Pettyfer, right, ("I Am Number Four," "Magic Mike") in the role of protagonist Christian Grey. TheWrap.com reported that Pettyfer has not been officially cast in the role and that the industry website was unable to confirm what actress has been cast as female lead Anastasia "Ana" Steel. Van Sant is a two-time Academy Award nominee for directing "Good Will Hunting" (1997) and "Milk" (2008).
