The newly renamed Hamptons Doc Fest is bolstering its brand with two free screenings during the winter season.

After 10 years as the Hamptons Take 2 Documentary Film Festival, the organization simplified its name last year. And like its glitzier cousin-festival in the Hamptons, this one also tries to maintain its profile with year-round programming.

First up is “Plimpton,” about George Plimpton, the founding editor of the Paris Review who spent much of his time on the East End. It screens Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Hampton Library, 2478 Main St., Bridgehampton. The next film, “The Salt of the Sea,” about the intersection of politics and commercial fishing on the East Coast, plays Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. at the South Fork Natural History Museum, 377 Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike, Bridgehampton. Filmmakers will attend each screening in person for a Q&A.

Although admission is free, reservations are recommended. For more information go to hamptonsdocfest.com.
