Following a spate of rumors, Harrison Ford appears to be succeeding the late William Hurt in Marvel Cinematic Universe films, beginning with 2024's "Captain America: New World Order."
The news was first reported Monday morning by Deadline.com, which cited no source, and subsequently by other trade outlets.
A Walt Disney Studios spokesperson did not respond to a Newsday request for independent confirmation.
According to the reports, Ford, 80, will step into the role of Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, who first appeared as an American military general in "The Incredible Hulk" (2008) and was named U.S. Secretary of State sometime prior to "Captain America: Civil War" (2016).
The character went on to appear in "Avengers: Infinity War" (2018), "Avengers: Endgame" (2019) and the flashback film "Black Widow" (2021), which in MCU chronology took place shortly after "Civil War."
Ford has not commented publicly.
Four-time Oscar nominee Hurt, who won best actor for 1985's "Kiss of the Spider Woman," died in March at age 71.
