Bellport's Isabella Rossellini, who has been a longtime patron of the arts on Long Island, will show her support once again next week when she makes an appearance at the Plaza Cinema and Media Arts Center in Patchogue on July 6.

The "Blue Velvet" star will be at Plaza for a screening of her latest film "Marcel the Shell With Shoes On," followed by a discussion with the audience. The movie is a full-length feature based on an animated YouTube short about the colorful adventures of a one-inch tall mollusk named Marcel. Rossellini provides the voice of Marcel's grandmother.

“I was fascinated to see how a short video on YouTube became viral, evolved to become a series of books, and now a feature film. It was also fascinating to work on an animated film, a very different and new experiment for me as an actress,” Rossellini said in a statement.

The event begins at 7 p.m. and is a fundraiser for the cinema. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased at plazamac.org.

Rossellini is also gearing up to launch the tour of her one-woman show "Darwin's Smile" at Gateway Playhouse in Bellport on Aug. 13 and 14 as a benefit for the theater. "Darwin's Smile" is a 75-minute monologue written by Rossellini in which she blends the worlds of art and science to explore animal behavior and even transforms herself into dogs, cats, chickens, peacocks and Charles Darwin. For tickets, call 631-286-1133 or go to thegateway.org.
