Few movie stars have treated movie stardom with such disregard as Johnny Depp, who has operated throughout his career more like a character actor specializing in offbeat characters (Sweeney Todd, Barnabas Collins, Willie Wonka, Jack Sparrow, Tonto). He's been doing it a long time, though: Depp's breakout role, as Tom Hanson in TV's "21 Jump Street," dates back to 1987.

The film, based on “The Mortdecai Trilogy” by Kyril Bonfiglioli, also features Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn and Aubrey Plaza. Depp plays a suave, debonair and decidedly odd art dealer trying to sidestep Russians, the MI5 and his wife (Paltrow) as he searches for a missing Goya that may hold the key to a trove of Nazi gold.
