Jon Hamm joins cast of 'Top Gun' sequel

Jon Hamm, Ed Harris and Lewis Pullman have joined the cast of the upcoming sequel, "Top Gun: Maverick."

Deadline.com said Wednesday that "Mad Men" star Hamm, four-time Academy Award-nominee Harris and relative newcomer Pullman, son of actor Bill Pullman, are taking unspecified roles in the Navy-pilot action drama. Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer will reprise their roles from the 1986 hit, with Oscar-winner Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell, and Miles Teller among the new cast.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski (2010's "Tron: Legacy," this year's cinematic "Taco Bell: Web of Fries" TV-commercial series), the film is scheduled for release July 12, 2019.
