THE MOVIE "All About Eve"

THE DEAL The actress, who played kindly Karen Richards in this 1950 classic about an aging stage star (Bette Davis) and her scheming admirer (Anne Baxter), will appear at a screening next week to talk about her on-set experiences. Holm also starred in A-list Hollywood fare like "The Tender Trap" and "High Society" (both with Frank Sinatra) and won a supporting actress Oscar opposite Gregory Peck in the 1947 drama "Gentleman's Agreement."

THE MOVIE "The Hobbit"

THE DEAL The director of "Pan's Labyrinth" and the "Hellboy" franchise has backed out of his assignment to direct the J.R.R. Tolkien adaptation. "In light of ongoing delays in the setting of a start date for filming 'The Hobbit,' I am faced with the hardest decision of my life," Del Toro said in a statement to TheOneRing.net, a Tolkien fan site. Screenwriter-producer Peter Jackson is considering stepping in. "Obviously that's one angle which I'll explore," he told The Dominion Post in New Zealand.


THE MOVIE "Whiz Kids"

THE DEAL This documentary follows three high-schoolers competing in the prestigious Intel Science Talent Search, a contest launched in 1942 by Westinghouse. One competitor, Ana Cisneros, is a first-generation Ecuadoran-American representing Uniondale High School. Her area of expertise: botany.
