WHO Angelina Jolie
THE DEAL The actress makes her directorial debut Dec. 21 with the Bosnian war drama "In the Land of Blood and Honey," but she's apparently not done making flashy Hollywood fare. She's in talks to star in an "untitled big-scale movie" by writer-director Luc Besson, Deadline.com reports. Besson is best known for sexed-up action flicks like "The Professional" and "La Femme Nikita," though little is being revealed about the potential Jolie project. Jolie is also set to work with director Ridley Scott on a historical film about World War I- era British aristocrat-diplomat Gertrude Bell.
THE MOVIE "The Lorax"
THE DEAL The folks at the Fox Business Network, who recently denounced "The Muppets" as Communist propaganda, probably won't like the newly released trailer for Universal Studios' animated version of "The Lorax," based on the 1971 pro-environment Dr. Seuss classic. It's the story of a town devoid of greenery until young Ted (voiced by Zac Efron) meets the tree-hugging Lorax (Danny DeVito). Ed Helms plays the deforesting villain known as the Once-ler; Taylor Swift is the nature-loving Audrey. The film is scheduled for release March 2.
THE MOVIE "Nora's Will"
THE DEAL This 2010 comedy-drama about a Jewish family living in Mexico kicks off the weekend's eighth annual OLA Film Festival, sponsored by the Organización Latino-Americana of Eastern Long Island. Other films include the Colombian drama "The Colors of the Mountain," about rural farmers plagued by guerrilla warriors, and "Carancho" about an ambulance-chasing lawyer living in Argentina. (All films are in Spanish with English subtitles.) There will be prescreening receptions with live music and hors d'oeuvres.
