Movie Buzz: Brown gets 'Lost'/You go, girl
WHO Dan Brown
THE MOVIE "The Lost Symbol"
THE DEAL The author of "The Da Vinci Code" and "Angels & Demons," which both became hit films directed by Ron Howard and starring Tom Hanks, is taking over screenwriting duties for the adaptation of his latest book, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Akiva Goldsmith ("A Beautiful Mind") wrote or co-wrote the past Brown films; Steven Knight ("Eastern Promises") briefly tried writing the new one. Neither Howard nor Hanks has officially committed to the project.
WHO Saoirse Ronan
THE MOVIE "Hanna"
THE DEAL After a strong year for rough-and-tumble girls in the movies - including Hailee Steinfeld in "True Grit" and Chloë Grace Moretz in both "Kick-Ass" and "Let Me In" - the fresh-faced Ronan will play a pint-size wrecking machine in the CIA thriller "Hanna." It also stars Cate Blanchett and Eric Bana and is directed by Joe Wright, whose 2007 drama, "Atonement," launched Ronan's career. Focus Features recently released a new trailer for the film, which is scheduled for release April 8.
THE MOVIE "The Secret of Kells"
THE DEAL This Oscar-nominated critics' favorite from 2009 tells the story of a young boy who must save a magical book from marauding Vikings; it is inspired by Ireland's real-life Book of Kells, an illuminated manuscript created by Celtic monks during the Middle Ages. The film is screening as part of a best-of series culled from this year's New York International Children's Film Festival.
