THE DEAL The Furman Film Series has announced its winter slate, which begins next week with a sneak preview of this downsizing drama starring Ben Affleck, Tommy Lee Jones and Chris Cooper as axed employees. Other Furman screenings will include "Cedar Rapids," in which Ed Helms, John C. Reilly, Anne Heche and Rob Corddry have fun at an insurance convention, and the romantic comedy "Ceremony," shot on Long Island with Uma Thurman.

THE MOVIE "Brother, Can You Spare a Dollar?"

THE DEAL Sayville filmmaker Thom Hoffman will host a screening of his 50-minute documentary about the Great Depression, which argues that Americans' growing sense of entitlement has left them ill-equipped to handle the current economic crisis. Interviewees include Jerry Tucker, of the "Our Gang" comedies, and the late Vic Skolnick, founder of the Cinema Arts Centre.

THE MOVIE "Twelve Thirty"

THE DEAL Plainview-raised writer-director Jeff Lipsky, who drew critical raves for his 2006 marital drama "Flannel Pajamas," is being heralded as "a maverick figure of American independent cinema" by the Film Society of Lincoln Center. Next week, the society will bring in Lipsky to host a screening of "Flannel Pajamas" and a sneak preview of his newest, "Twelve Thirty," about a dysfunctional family shaken up by an interloper. The cast includes Jonathan Groff, of Broadway's "Spring Awakening," and Mamie Gummer, daughter of Meryl Streep and sculptor Don Gummer.
