THE MOVIE "127 Hours"

THE DEAL Danny Boyle's upcoming film, starring James Franco as Aron Ralston, the hiker who in 2003 was forced to amputate his arm to survive, doesn't come out until Nov. 5. But the Great Neck Arts Center is holding a sneak preview as part of this season's Furman Film Series. The guest speaker will be Luke Dempsey, who edited Ralston's book, "Between a Rock and a Hard Place."

THE MOVIE "The Last Play at Shea"

THE DEAL This combo documentary about the legendary Shea Stadium and Long Island hit-maker Billy Joel - he played the venue's final concert before its demolition in 2008 - is continuing its unusual marketing and distribution strategies. The film had its official premiere at Citi Field in August; now it's holding one-night screenings at theaters across the country. A regular theatrical run also is planned.

THE EVENT Found Footage Festival

THE DEAL It's becoming an annual tradition: Nick Prueher and Joe Pickett, co-founders and co-curators of this oddball fest, bring their touring collection of flotsam and jetsam to Long Island. Gems this time include the instructional video "Ventriloquism for Fun & Profit" and a VHS tape titled "Enjoying Love Making Through Hypnosis." This weekend's screening marks the start of the festival's North American tour.
