WHO Kevin Smith
THE MOVIE "Red State"
THE DEAL The director of last year's major-studio flop "Cop Out" is returning to his indie roots with his new horror film, "Red State." At its Sundance Film Festival premiere on Sunday, Smith announced he would promote the film himself using social media such as Twitter and accompany the movie on a cross-country tour of theatrical venues. The first stop will be Radio City Music Hall on March 5. Tickets go on sale Friday through the film's website, coopersdell.com.
WHO Nikki Blonsky
THE MOVIE "Waiting for Forever"
THE DEAL The Great Neck-born actress has a supporting role in this romantic comedy about an aimless young man named Will (Tom Sturridge, of "Pirate Radio"), who has spent his life trying to impress a childhood crush (Rachel Bilson). Blonsky plays the more mature role of Dolores, the wife of Will's best friend. The film is scheduled for release Feb. 4.
THE MOVIE "F for Fake"
THE DEAL This uncategorizable 1974 film from Orson Welles - his last major completed work - is a free-form, quasi-documentary about art fraud. Featuring contradictory narratives and sleight-of-hand editing, the film is a kind of precursor to reality-tweaking experiments like Joaquin Phoenix's "I'm Still Here" and Banksy's "Exit Through the Gift Shop." Film critic Michael Atkinson will lead a Q-and-A session at a screening.
INFO Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Cinema Arts Centre, 423 Park Ave., Huntington. Tickets are $13. 800-838-3006; cinemaartscentre.org.
