Movie buzz: 'Lightning' strikes for Colfer

THE MOVIE "Struck by Lightning"
THE DEAL The Emmy-nominated actor best known as Kurt Hummel, the well-dressed gay student on Fox's "Glee," will make his big-screen debut in the coming-of-age comedy, which he also wrote, according to Variety.com. Producer David Permut ("Youth in Revolt") said he is looking for a director who can channel the spirit of the late John Hughes. Filming is expected to begin over "Glee's" summer hiatus.
THE MOVIE "Kings of Pastry"
THE DEAL This documentary may sound light and fluffy, but critics were stirred (get it?) by the story of 16 French chefs competing for a medal from President Nicolas Sarkozy. The filmmakers, legendary documentarians D.A. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus (1993's "The War Room"), are hosting a local screening.

THE DEAL And speaking of France: Caron, the star of 1958's "Gigi," helped establish America's fantasy of Paris as a city full of beautiful women, Gauloises-smoking men and the accordionists who serenade them. The 79-year-old dancer-actress visits Long Island next week for a screening of her 1951 musical "An American in Paris" and to talk about her book, "Thank Heaven: A Memoir."
