THE MOVIE "Cloud Atlas"
THE DEAL Warner Bros. has confirmed reports that the British actor will join Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Sturgess and many others in an adaptation of David Mitchell's 2004 novel about souls who interconnect through the past and into a post-apocalyptic future. The film also may mark the first to be officially credited to directors Andy and Lana (formerly Larry) Wachowski, apparently no longer calling themselves the Wachowski Brothers ("The Matrix"). What's more, they'll be joined by a third director, Tom Tykwer ("Run Lola Run"). "Cloud Atlas" is scheduled for release next year.

THE DEAL The seasonal film program, now aligned with the recently launched Gold Coast International Film Festival, has announced the first half of its lineup, which begins Oct. 6 with "The Women on the 6th Floor," a French comedy about a middle-class man who befriends a group of Spanish maids. Other scheduled films include the Wall Street thriller "Margin Call" (Oct. 19), starring Kevin Spacey and Penn Badgley, and "Hot Coffee" (Nov. 3), a documentary that re-examines the much-derided McDonald's coffee lawsuit of 1994. THE MOVIE "The Loving Story"
THE DEAL The Port Jefferson Documentary Series continues with this award-winning documentary about Richard Loving and Mildred Jeter, whose interracial marriage in Virginia in 1958 was initially ruled a crime but eventually became a landmark Supreme Court case. Director Nancy Buirski will speak at next week's screening.
