Movie buzz: Top of the Hill

THE DEAL The 28-year-old comedic actor and recent Oscar nominee for his dramatic turn in "Moneyball" has signed up for another serious-sounding role, according to Deadline.com. Hill is set to play real-life journalist Michael Finkel, who in 2001 discovered that a captured murderer named Christian Longo (James Franco) had been using his identity -- and now insisted on giving interviews only to Finkel. Hill's co-star in "Moneyball," Brad Pitt, will produce the movie, which is based on Finkel's 2005 memoir.
THE MOVIE "The Artist"
THE DEAL Now that "The Artist" has won the best picture Oscar, The Weinstein Co. is planning to release it into 2,000 theaters tomorrow, up from about 960, according to TheWrap.com. So far, "The Artist" has grossed only $31.7 million, but that figure could more than double if audiences respond well to the much-expanded release. The black-and-white silent film earned five Academy Awards in all, including for cinematography, score, best actor for Jean Dujardin and costume design by Stony Brook University graduate Mark Bridges.
THE MOVIE "No Room for Rockstars"
THE DEAL Skateboard hero Stacy Peralta helped produce this documentary about the Vans Warped Tour, the traveling punk-rock ecosystem famous for its eclectic mix of fledgling bands like Fall Out Boy and old-school torchbearers like Bad Religion. Shot during the 2010 summer tour, the film is screening at only a few dozen theaters around the United States, including one on Long Island. There also will be a March 8 screening accompanied by live bands at House of Vans, 25 Franklin St., Brooklyn.
