WHO Tyler Perry

THE MOVIE "Alex Cross"

THE DEAL Summit Entertainment has set an Oct. 26 release for this crime thriller, which marks Perry's first major project as an actor for hire. Perry, who usually writes and directs his own productions, will be directed by Rob Cohen ("The Fast and the Furious") in the title role, a homicide detective searching for his wife's killer (Matthew Fox). Cross, created by novelist James Patterson, was previously played by Morgan Freeman in 1997's "Kiss the Girls" and 2001's "Along Came a Spider."

THE MOVIE "I Am Bruce Lee"

THE DEAL Little is known about this documentary on the martial-arts icon and barrier-breaking Asian screen star, but those interviewed for the film range from the obvious (cage fighter Gina Carano, of "Haywire") to the unlikely (Ed O'Neill, of "Modern Family," a longtime jujitsu practitioner). The film, co-produced by Lee's daughter, Shannon, will be shown in one-off screenings at select theaters around the country, including three local venues.

INFO Thursday at 8 p.m. at Grand Avenue Cinemas, Baldwin; AMC Roosevelt Field 8, Garden City; and AMC Stony Brook 17. Ticket prices vary by venue; purchase online at iambruceleemovie.com.

THE MOVIE "Chocolat"

THE DEAL Just in time for Valentine's Day comes a screening of this gooey Franco-American confection starring Juliette Binoche as a young mother and Johnny Depp as a handsome Gypsy. It screens with a reception featuring champagne, wine, cider, flowers to take home and, of course, chocolate.
