WHO Ed Harris

THE MOVIE "Virginia"

THE DEAL Originally titled "What's Wrong With Virginia," this drama has been in the works since at least 2009 but was recently picked up by Toronto-based distributor Entertainment One, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Jennifer Connelly plays the lead role as a mentally unstable mother, but it's Ed Harris' role that may give the movie a topical hook: He plays a Mormon running for political office. Dustin Lance Black ("J. Edgar") wrote the script; Emma Roberts ("Scream 4") also stars. The film is due for release in spring.

WHO Judi Dench

THE MOVIE "Skyfall"

THE DEAL As M to Daniel Craig's James Bond, Dench usually gets only a few minutes of screen time. She may get a little more in the new installment, at least judging from a rare peek at the movie's closely guarded plot. "Bond's loyalty to M [Dench] is tested as her past comes back to haunt her," reads the summary from Sony Pictures. "As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost." The film, starring Javier Bardem and directed by Sam Mendes, is due in theaters Nov. 9.

WHO Piper Laurie

THE MOVIE "The Hustler"

THE DEAL Celebrating the (belated) 50th anniversary of "The Hustler," the 1961 classic featuring Paul Newman as a small-time pool shark, co-star Piper Laurie appears in person at a local screening next week. She will discuss and sign copies of her recently published memoir, "Learning to Live Out Loud," which recounts her transformation from a shy, nearly mute young girl into a Hollywood star.
