WHO Zack Snyder

THE MOVIE “The Fountainhead”

THE DEAL The director of such comic-book adaptations as “300,” “Man of Steel” and “Justice League” has suggested his next project will be a remake of Ayn Rand’s debut novel, according to reports. Snyder has long been a fan of Rand’s anti-socialist, pro-capitalist romance, in which a headstrong architect battles a conformist society. Snyder made the semiofficial announcement on the social media site Vero earlier this week in response to a question from a user. A largely panned 1949 film version was directed by King Vidor and starred Gary Cooper and Patricia Neal.

WHO Alan Rickman

THE DEAL A trove of the actor’s personal papers and letters, recently sold at auction, reveals glimmers of frustration with his role as Professor Severus Snape in the “Harry Potter” movies, according to Deadline. A letter to Rickman from producer David Heyman reads, “I know, at times, you are frustrated but please know that you are an integral part of the films.” Later, while working on “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” Rickman wrote a note titled “Inside Snape’s Head” in which he complained, “It’s as if David Yates [the film’s director] has decided that this is not important in the scheme of things, i.e., teen audience appeal.” Rickman died of pancreatic cancer in 2016.

THE MOVIE “A Kid Like Jake”

THE DEAL Claire Danes and Jim Parsons play a Brooklyn couple whose preschooler may — or may not — be gender nonconforming. The film, based on Daniel Pearle’s play and directed by Silas Howard, will be released in Manhattan this weekend but can be seen locally next week for a one-night engagement.
