A Jones for music: Big-name week at the beach

"Reach the Beach" isn't just a classic album by British new wavers The Fixx. For the next few days, it's also a mantra for Long Island music lovers. Our greatest summer venue, Nikon at Jones Beach Theater, brings out the biggies this week. Here's a look.

WHAT'S UP The long-awaited next album, "Hands All Over," hits shelves Sept. 21. "We went to Switzerland and made it with Mutt Lange, and we had an incredible, inspiring experience that we will never forget," frontman Adam Levine told The Huffington Post last week.

WHAT'S UP It was a big year for the Boston icons last year. Singer Steven Tyler fell off a stage and caused the cancellation of the band's summer tour. Then he spent time in rehab for prescription drug abuse and then came the fights with his bandmates, and chatter about Tyler being replaced as Aerosmith's lead singer. Everything's better now, he says. But the rumors that Tyler will become an "American Idol" judge have irked guitarist Steve Perry: "I found out on the Internet like the rest of the world," he told the Boston Herald.

WHAT'S UP The Kabuki-faced rockers, led by Gene Simmons, want you to bring the kids to this show. The group wants to show 'em how it was done in the old days. "There's another world out there besides Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers," Simmons told Billboard .com. "It's important for them to see how the big boys do it. There's no tapes. There's no background singers backstage. It's important for the kids to see that whatever you see on stage is real."

Rihanna
WHAT'S UP Eminem brought in Rihanna to collaborate on the domestic-violence-themed "Love the Way You Lie," which had its music-video premiere last week (Megan Fox and "Lost's" Dominic Monaghan star). Rihanna told "Access Hollywood" the song is "authentic and real" - and apparently popular. The single sits atop the Billboard Hot 100.

ANOTHER REASON TO GO Ke$ha! The "Tik Tok" pop princess is up for three Moonman statuettes at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. "I don't even know what to say," she tweeted last week.
