Multiplatinum recording artist Ashanti, a Glen Cove native, has been named this year's Lady of Soul by the Soul Train Awards.

The cable network BET on Tuesday announced the nominations and two special awards, setting a telecast from Harlem's historic Apollo Theater on Nov. 28, both on BET and BET Her.

"I'm honored to be recognized as this year's 'Lady of Soul' honoree," the Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter-actor, born Ashanti Douglas, 41, said in a statement. "This is a full-circle moment for me because I received the 'Aretha Franklin Entertainer of the Year' Award at the Lady of Soul Awards in 2002. As we commemorate 50 years of 'Soul Train,' I'm proud to be a part of this legacy and to return to the Apollo to celebrate."
