Billy Joel has extended his record-setting residency at Madison Square Garden until the end of 2016, making it three years of monthly shows at the arena.

Tickets for the Dec. 17 show at The Garden are $65.50 to $129.50 and go on sale at 10 a.m. March 25 through Ticketmaster. Citi cardholders can purchase presale tickets starting March 21 at 10 a.m. through citiprivatepass.com.

Though an announcement for shows in 2017 isn’t expected any time soon, Joel says he would like to continue the residency because it continues to surprise him.

“I thought it would settle down and mellow out,” Joel said backstage at the Tilles Center before an event to raise awareness of the Long Island High School for the Arts, which he hopes to help keep open. “That hasn’t happened. It’s gotten more exciting.”

Joel is looking forward to a summer filled with stadium shows across the country, even in West Coast markets that weren’t always strong sellers for the Hicksville native.

“I’m 66,” Joel said. “I’m thinking maybe it’s time to start slowing down. It’s not happening. The box office is bigger now than it ever was … This is not a bad problem to have.”

He said the concerts have been more fun than he expected.

“I’m having a blast,” Joel said. “It’s a re-energizing thing. There’s a lot more young people in the audience than there used to be …. And they’re making a lot of noise.”
