Billy Joel will mark his 70th birthday with Madison Square Garden show
Billy Joel has already made his 70th birthday plans. He’s going to work.
The Hicksville native has set the May show of his Madison Square Garden for the same night as his birthday on May 9. The show will be the 64th show of his residency and his 110th career performance at the arena.
Tickets are $65.50-$149.50 and go on sale at 10 a.m. on Dec. 21 through Ticketmaster. Citi cardholders can purchase presale tickets starting at 10 a.m. Monday through the Citi Private Pass program.
Joel has said he prefers working on his birthday. He celebrated his 65th birthday at Madison Square Garden, with Howard Stern introducing him and telling fans that Joel should continue his residence "for the rest of his life and then some." "Even after he dies, just stuff him and wheel him out here for a while," Stern joked, while Joel’s friends, including Sting, Paul Rudd and Judd Apatow cheered. Jimmy Fallon made a special appearance, performing an a capella version of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” with Joel.
