Could Long Island have a Shawn Mendes of its own? Well, Matt Weiss could certainly make that argument with his single "Black Magic" (Matt Weiss).

The Huntington Station singer-songwriter has that Mendes mix of earnestness and edge on the song, with its chorus of "It was never simple, we're young and sinful and we can't stay in our youth." Weiss has a nice falsetto and a great break in his voice, which he balances nicely with some Justin Timberlake-styled R&B to keep things from getting too sweet.

The Nassau Community College vocal performance major is currently working on his debut EP, but "Black Magic" is certainly enough to get him some attention and draw new fans to his live shows.

Matt Weiss plays Amityville Music Hall, 198 Broadway, Amityville, 631-397-0578 at 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $12 through clubloaded.com
