Go, go Godzilla!
Yes, the Blue Öyster Cult classic arrived last week on the Rock Band game platform so that fans can play along with the Stony Brook natives on that track, as well as "Transmaniacon MC." It's part of the ongoing beefing up of classic rock selections on Rock Band, which also added Nazareth's "Hair of the Dog" and Hawkwind's "Master of the Universe." For those looking for more recent reasons to rock out, the company also added Rage Against the Machine's "Bulls on Parade."
Of course, learning to play those songs on Rock Band requires a completely different set of skills than learning to play them on, you know, an actual guitar. Mountain'sLeslie West, whose "Mississippi Queen" is a staple of both Rock Band and Guitar Hero, says he recently tried to play the video game and didn't fare very well.
"It has nothing to do with playing the guitar," West says. "I wrote the song and I still got beat by a 9-year-old."
