The globally popular South Korean boy band BTS, one of only three rock-pop groups to release three No. 1 albums in less than a year, on Sunday announced its next one, "We Are Bulletproof."
"BTS will be back with another new album on June 10, 2022," the group's management company, Big Hit Entertainment, announced on its Weverse page. "Details on the new album will be provided in a separate notice at a later date. We look forward to your love and support for BTS' new album."
The band's Twitter account followed up with a notice of the new album's release and a 50-second black-and-white montage of BTS in performance plus other footage, set against a percussive track. Toward the end, the album title appears in graphical text, accompanied by a computerized voice saying the words. The release date then appears.
The video also ran Saturday at the conclusion of BTS' four-concert residency over two weekends at Las Vegas' Allegiant Stadium.
The seven-member group's previous studio album, "Be," released in December 2020, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart, and remained on the chart for 37 weeks. From June 2018 to March 2020, BTS released four other No. 1 albums. "Be" spawned the Billboard 100 No. 1 singles "Dynamite" (released before the album) and "Life Goes On."
In April 2019, BTS joined an elite group when its eighth overall album, "Map of the Soul: Persona," became its third in a year to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, following " Love Yourself: Tear" on June 2, 2018, and "Love Yourself: Answer" on Sept. 8, 2018.
The next most recent traditional group to have done so — not counting the changing ensembles of TV's "Glee" cast, with its soundtrack albums — was The Beatles, whose three "Anthology" albums hit No. 1 from December 1995 to November 1996. That iconic band previously accomplished this feat twice before, in 1964-1965 and 1965-1966 — actually reaching four No. 1 albums each time when including movie soundtracks. The Monkees also had three no. 1 albums in one year.
In November 2017, BTS set a Guinness World Record for the most Twitter engagements, overtaking the previous record-holder, singer Harry Styles.
