CHARTS: Kenny Chesney debuts at No. 1, edges out Lil Wayne
Kenny Chesney lands his sixth No. 1 album, as “Hemingway’s Whiskey” (BNA) edges out Lil Wayne’s digital release of his EP “I Am Not a Human Being.”
Chesney sold 183,000 copies of the bold “Whiskey,” according to Nielsen SoundScan, marking a rare increase in the struggling music industry for a veteran artist’s opening-week sales. (Chesney’s “Lucky Old Sun” sold 178,000 copies in its debut week in 2008.)
Wayne’s “I Am Not a Human Being” didn’t get a full marketing push, as Weezy remains in Rikers serving his sentence on a gun possession charge. The EP, originally meant as a digital-only release, did well enough, however, to merit a full-fledged CD release, selling 110,000 copies.
Zac Brown Band’s “You Get What You Give,” last week’s No. 1 slipped to No. 3. Gucci Mane’s “The Appeal: Georgia’s Most Wanted” debuted at No. 4, while Eminem’s “Recovery” moved up a notch to No. 5.
Eric Clapton’s “Clapton” was the only other Top 10 debut, landing at No. 6 on sales of 47,000.
