Chicago and Styx, two bands that got their start in the Windy City, will play together for the first time on a national co-headlining tour that will stop at Northwell at Jones Beach Theater next summer.
The Wantagh show is scheduled for July 23, 2026, part of the bands' 25-date Windy Cities Tour. Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. via Live Nation.
Chicago, the rare rock band built around a horn section, formed in its namesake city in the late 1960s and scored many jazzed-up pop hits during the 1970s and '80s. Early singles included "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?” and “Beginnings,” both released under the name Chicago Transit Authority; after a name change to Chicago came such hits as “Saturday in the Park,” the No. 1 ballad “If You Leave Me Now" and "Hard Habit to Break." Lead vocalists included keyboardist Robert Lamm, guitarist Terry Kath (who died in 1978) and bassist Peter Cetera, who left the band in 1985 and announced his retirement from performing in 2019.
Styx formed in the Windy City in 1972 around lead singer Dennis DeYoung and brothers Chuck and John Panozzo (guitar and drums, respectively). After releasing several prog-rock albums that met with middling success, Styx scored a triple-platinum hit with the 1977 album “The Grand Illusion.” Its single “Come Sail Away” reached No. 8 and helped the prog subgenre reach a wider audience. The 1981 album “Paradise Theatre” was a hit as well, reaching No. 1. Styx found further success in the ’80s with the Top Ten singles “Mr. Roboto” and “Don’t Let It End.”
Styx is no longer fronted by DeYoung; the remaining members from the band's classic lineup include guitarist-vocalist Tommy Shaw, bassist Chuck Panozzo and guitarist James Young, according to the band’s website, styxworld.com.
Chicago’s remaining original members include Lamm, trumpeter Lee Loughnane and trombonist James Pankow, according to the band’s website, chicagotheband.com.
In the past, Styx has shared the Jones Beach stage with such acts as Tesla, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and REO Speedwagon.
