Flaming Lips release 6-hour-long song
They do things big in Texas. In Oklahoma, too, apparently.
The Flaming Lips, Oklahoma City's favorite psych rockers, are releasing a new song with a running time of . . . six hours. Uh-huh. You read that correctly. You'll need the better part of a work shift or school day to listen to "Found a Star on the Ground." Proceeds from the song's sales will benefit the Central Oklahoma Humane Society and the Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma.
To raise even more money for the Okie foundations, fans who were paying attention to Lips' front man Wayne Coyne's Twitter feed and donated $100 will have their names read during the song -- hey, there's lots of time for that -- by Sean Lennon.
But wait, there's more. "Found a Star" (and two other much shorter songs) will "be contained within a newly developed mesmerizing toy, The Strobo Trip," according to a statement from the band. So keep an eye on flaminglips.com for more details on that.
