Perhaps it feels like the last time as Foreigner will bring its "Historic Farewell Tour" to Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater on Aug. 2, with Loverboy serving as the special guest. The concert is the first newly announced show for the Wantagh waterside venue’s 2023 season.
“Foreigner is a completely revitalized band with a whole new energy that has won the hearts of our fans all over the world, and I want to go out while the band is still at the top of its game,” band founder/guitarist Mick Jones, 77, told Billboard magazine. “I had the idea that was to become Foreigner back in 1974, and I was 30 years old at the time. By the end of our farewell tour, over 50 years will have passed, and that’s a long time to be on the road.”
Currently, Jones plays part-time in Foreigner — the band consists of all hired guns such as Kelly Hansen (vocals), Jeff Pilson (bassist), Bruce Watson (guitar), Luis Maldonado (guitar), Michael Bluestein (keyboards) and Chris Frazier (drums). The group, which has had more than 20 different members through the years, sold more than 80 million albums since its self-titled debut in 1977. Foreigner has also scored nine top 10 singles including “Feels Like the First Time,” “Hot Blooded,” “Double Vision,” “Urgent” and the No. 1 hit, “I Want to Know What Love Is.”
Although Foreigner hasn’t released a new album since 2009’s “Can’t Slow Down,” Pilson hints that some fresh songs are on the way.
“There’s probably four I’m aware of that are close, and some other snippets,” Pilson told Billboard. “I definitely see some new material coming, hopefully within the next year.”
Tickets for Foreigner's show go on sale Friday at 9 a.m. via ticketmaster.com. Citi cardmembers have access to a presale starting Tuesday at 9 a.m. through Thursday at 10 p.m. For more presale details, visit: citientertainment.com. Check the Ticketmaster website for other presale opportunities.
The other two shows on the Jones Beach roster for next summer are leftovers from 2022 that were rescheduled, including Matchbox Twenty on July 18 and a showing of the “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” film with a live score from the New Jersey Symphony on July 29.
