Governors Ball 2016 lineup: Kanye West, Strokes, Killers headlining

Kanye West, the Strokes and the Killers will headline the sixth Governors Ball on Randalls Island from June 3 to 5.

“It always feels good to be heading back to the hometown,” the Strokes said in a statement. “It’s been a couple years now since we’ve played in NYC — how y’all doing?”

It’s not clear whether the band will release its follow-up to 2013’s “Come Down Machine” before the show. It’s also not clear whether West will release his long-awaited album “SWISH” before his headlining appearance. In 2013, West introduced songs from his “Yeezus” album at the festival.

Beck, Robyn, Miguel, Jamie xx and Death Cab for Cutie are also on the schedule, as well as Lake Grove native Jon Bellion and the pride of Amityville, hip-hop legends De La Soul.

Three-day passes are on sale now through the Governors Ball website (governorsballmusicfestival.com), starting at $275.

Governors Ball organizers were worried by plans for Coachella producers AEG Live to launch the Panorama festival at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park two weeks after Governors Ball, even starting a petition asking New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to reject the proposal. Though Panorama has not been confirmed, its possible existence doesn’t seem to have affected this year’s Governors Ball lineup.

“As born and bred New Yorkers, the people behind Governors Ball are also incredibly proud of the economic impact the festival has had for the city and its residents,” Founders Entertainment, the Governors’ organizers, said in a statement. “Governors Ball generated $49 million in economic benefits for New York City in 2015, a 29 percent increase over the previous summer, creating 353 local jobs and $23 million in wages in the process. Many of the jobs and economic benefits were generated in the East Harlem and South Bronx communities, which surround Randalls Island.”
