WHAT The Harlem Renaissance Orchestra opens Old Westbury Gardens' Picnic Pops Concert Series, highlighted by big band fare and al fresco dining, plus dancing on the outdoor parquet floor. Following Harlem Renaissance in this Wednesday evening series is Smithtown's Vince Giordano and his Nighthawks on July 18, The Hot Sardines July 25, James Langton's New York All-Star Big Band Aug. 1 and Zon del Bario Aug. 8. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs -- maybe even a folding table. But arrive early to stroll the sumptuous gardens before or after your picnic.

WHEN | WHERE Gates opens at 5 p.m. Wednesday, dance lessons 6:30, concert at 7, Old Westbury Gardens, 71 Old Westbury Rd.
