Jewel's baby is her kiddie CD
For Jewel, it's new child, new children's album.
A month after the singer-songwriter and her rodeo-champ husband, Ty Murray, had their first baby, Kase, Jewel is releasing "The Merry Goes 'Round." The album, part of the Fisher-Price music series, comes out on iTunes Aug. 16; it hits stores in September.
"I wanted to write an album for my son that would grow with him through different stages of development," the singer and judge on Bravo's "Platinum Hit" said in a statement. And "I wanted an album parents would love, too, with quality production and well-crafted songs that could entertain the whole family -- instead of leaving parents to cringe every time the 'kids' record came on."
There should be little to no cringing with "Merry." The album's 16 tracks are filled with that Jewel-like lilt that made "You Were Meant for Me" such a hit. And she includes such classics as "Oh! Susanna" and "She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain" -- fitting, for her, after those years of living in Alaska.
