Long Island’s newest radio station is all about the oldies. Ronkonkoma-based JVC Broadcasting has launched Oldies98 (98.1-FM) to focus on music from the British Invasion to the earliest days of new wave, a playlist that runs from 1964 to 1985.

“This is an underserved audience that has been neglected by local radio,” John Caracciolo, JVC Broadcasting president and CEO, said in a statement. “Oldies98 celebrates yesterday’s hits just as you remember them — from favorite Motown memories, to Elvis Presley to the Beatles to Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Hall & Oates, Huey Lewis and so many more.”

Oldies98 is running commercial-free through January, when it will begin its regular programming with DJs broadcasting live. JVC executives say the station was designed for Suffolk County.

“We will tap into the deep musical heritage here by highlighting those big artists and hits that just don’t get played anymore,” said Vic Latino, JVC’s vice president.
